SONG

Not long ago
it rained hard,
not long ago
it got dark.

I didn’t go on
until it had stopped,
so I had to wait
until it stopped.

I heard the rain
fall from great heights
and could have sat
outside on the grass.

The rain as a crown
on my head, or
as if I hadn’t yet begun
and got to say when.

Like in a song:
once and once again,
afraid it has changed
or remained unchanged.

LIEDJE

LIEDJE

Niet lang geleden
regende het hard,
niet lang geleden
werd het donker.

Ik ging niet verder
voordat het voorbij was,
wat maakte dat ik wachtte
tot het voorbij was.

Ik hoorde de regen
van grote hoogte vallen
en ik had buiten
op het gras kunnen zitten.

De regen als een kroon
op mijn hoofd, of
alsof ik er nog niet was
en ik mocht zeggen wanneer ik begon.

Als in een liedje:
een keer en nog een keer,
bang dat veranderd is
of niet veranderd is.
