At Poetry International, we like to celebrate the love of poetry everywhere and with everyone!
With our educational offerings, we are there for schools, organizations or companies and for anyone who wants to get started with poetry in their free time. We provide one-off workshops as well as series and lesson series; ready-made, tailor-made, or in co-creation and always with experienced and inspiring workshop leaders.
Primary education
Our programmes for primary schools introduce pupils to poetry in a playful and creative way: In an accessible way, you read or listen to poetry. You play with words and, together with a real poet, perhaps write your first ever poem.
Practical info
The workshop(s) can be linked to language lessons and themes. A workshop lasts one block hour. Bookings are made for a minimum of two workshops per day.
Example
Groups 6, 7, 8 of primary school Het Landje were introduced to poetry with 3 lessons where they read poems, wrote them and processed them into a tiny book.

Secondary education
With our workshops for secondary school students, you dive deeper into the language of poetry. You will work on skills such as figures of speech, rhythm and imagery that will help you express yourself in written and spoken language. You will work actively and share your self-written text at the end of the workshop.
Practical info
The workshop(s) can be linked to the subjects Dutch, English, Citizenship and CKV. A workshop lasts a block hour. Bookings are for a minimum of two workshops on one day. In consultation, a different subject can be dealt with per workshop: Poetry Play, Poetry Practice and Poetry Perform.

Spraakzaam Rotterdam
Spraakzaam Rotterdam is an active and inspiring introduction to poetry for secondary school students from the third or fourth grade. Pupils perform their poem (or part of it) during the workshop. In the grand finale on the opening day of the Poetry International Festival, pupils from various schools compete for the Speechful Rotterdam trophy. Spraakzaam Rotterdam is offered through the Cultuurtraject. For more info, read more here.
Students
For MBO, HBO and University students, Poetry International offers programs in which, in addition to reading, listening and writing poetry, presentation techniques are also central. During the workshops you will build your self-confidence and receive feedback on your written work and presentation. We often work towards a performance during the festival or a meet and greet with a festival poet.
Practical info
The workshop(s) can be linked to the (elective) courses. A workshop lasts 90 minutes. Bookings are made for a minimum of two workshops per day.
