Horacio Benavides

Ricardo Reis Has Returned to Lisbon

I returned to the riverbank
and I saw you come out Lidia
from the past that has no return

You sat beside me
full of unsaid words
pagan and placidly sad
with the scent of the roses
in the memory of hands

In this sunset
matt gold and blue
in which the night is coming
like a dark ship
into the port

RICARDO REIS HA VUELTO A LISBOA

RICARDO REIS HA VUELTO A LISBOA

He vuelto a la orilla del río
y te he visto salir Lidia
del pasado que no regresa

Te has sentado junto a mí
plena de palabras no dichas
pagana y sosegadamente triste
con la fragancia de las rosas
en la memoria de las manos

En este crepúsculo
oro mate y azul
en que la noche va entrando
como una nave oscura
en el puerto
