You’re Not Going Anywhere

We all have to go and I’m not looking forward to it but let’s agree that you will go first and me before then you will be my bride and we’ll shiver on that rotten old rocking chair and the cat still needs to eat cats need to eat you know that we’ll get married and rock and you’re not going anywhere

I’ll see to it that you eat breakfast you’ll make sure I don’t forget my pills we’ll churn the pond with all the bread we’ve saved come and rock on my lap there is nothing to think about you’re not going anywhere we’ll buy kilos of cat food the people in the supermarket will be astonished

two rocking chairs me and you a dusty carpet we need to pick up a porch somewhere don’t worry I’m keeping a list tobacco boards hammer nails dry rot forgetfulness a mild September breeze on your cheeks and cat food you’re not going anywhere without me nowhere we’ll sit here and sit and a hundred years from now we’ll still be giving each other warm fuzzy nods

the ducks are killing each other there is never enough there is nothing left shake out your plastic bags there is nothing to think about you have the rare kind of face that stays good forever we’ll go far faraway from here nowhere we’ll watch the sun come and go and sit here in our ark and nod we need to eat you know that we’ll astonish people you’re such a beautiful bride we’ll rock and rock and not go anywhere else.
