Road left alone, losing itself

Road left alone, losing itself
in distance. With two or three
horseshoes, half-heartedly interested
in rust – A mouth with all
it will be lost by still before it.

Up by the steps, beside the real steps,
what first had to wither is budding;

seen by me as if it has not
been by me. (Pierced.) Of course a cat
has more beautiful eyes than an owl.
Of course water swims through
its fish till judgement day.

Alleengelaten weg die zich verliest in afstand

Alleengelaten weg, die zich verliest
in afstand. Met een hoefijzer of twee
drie, halfhartig geïnteresseerd
in roest − Een mond met alles nog
voor zich wat hem verliest.

Boven aan de trap, naast de echte trap,
ontluikt wat eerst moest verwelkt;

door mij gezien alsof het niet bij mij
heeft gehoord. (Doorboord.) En of een kat
soms mooiere ogen heeft dan een uil.
En of het water zijn vissen wel door-
zwemt tot op de jongste dag.
