AN ESTIMATE OF MISSING WEIGHT

When you look at
an empty
pair of scales,
you can roughly see
what they can bear

or what they might
give way to
perhaps the both
of these
at once.

Really, it’s possible to lay
something on top.

Look at that,
the shadow of a
tomato,
that wasn’t even
what you had
planned.

The tomato itself is fine, too.
You’d rather guess?

A banana: a tangerine:
an apple: a grape:
an orange:

What weighs the most,
what weighs the least?

Then put the pair of scales
back on the shelf with
the tomato
on top

then just see

tomorrow
whether the fruit
gained any weight
overnight.

HET SCHATTEN VAN ONTBREKEND GEWICHT

HET SCHATTEN VAN ONTBREKEND GEWICHT

Als je naar een leeg
weegschaaltje
kijkt,
zie je ongeveer wat het
kan dragen

of waar het onder
bezwijkt
misschien wel alle
twee
tegelijk.

Je kunt er ook echt iets
op leggen.

Kijk, de
schaduw van een
tomaat,
dat was je niet
eens van
plan.

De tomaat zelf mag ook.
Je raadt het liever?

Een banaan: een mandarijn:
een appel: een druif:
een sinaasappel:

Wat weegt het meest,
wat weegt het minst?

Zet dan het weegschaaltje
in een kast met
de tomaat
erop

en kijk pas

morgen
weer of de
vrucht zwaarder
 werd in de nacht.
