February 14, Going to the Hospital with My Father

We ate breakfast    took medicine
fought the polluted air

We got up early waited at the hospital
identifying the footsteps of the ear doctor

We were silent sitting side by side
depositing silence into the air

One day two days hands behind our backs
standing on the slow-moving elevator

The scarf is new the ice and garbage are also new
we listen to each other until we can hear nothing

14 FEBRUARI, MET VADER NAAR HET ZIEKENHUIS

we hebben ontbeten    medicijnen geslikt
en met vervuilde lucht gevochten

we zijn vroeg opgestaan   zitten in het ziekenhuis te wachten
op het geluid van de voetstappen van de oorarts

in stilte zitten we   in de rij
en brengen de stilte in de lucht

een dag   twee dagen   met de handen op de rug
staan we in de trage lift

de sjaal is nieuw    ijs en afval zijn ook nieuw
we luisteren naar elkaar   tot we niets meer horen
