The Moon Grove*

at night howling is heard
in the heart of Jerusalem
and whoever cannot sleep
goes out to search the empty streets
where a rebellious jackal walks among us        

and sometimes in the Moon Grove
a man may be found sitting under a towering pine         
a burning bush consumes at his feet 
his hands coal and his voice
the voice of the jackal

חורשת ירח

בַּלַּיְלָה נִשְׁמַעַת יְלָלָה
בְּלִבָּהּ שֶׁל יְרוּשָׁלַיִם
וּמִי שֶׁאֵינוֹ נִרְדָּם יוֹצֵא לְחַפֵּשׂ
בִּרְחוֹבוֹת רֵיקִים מֵאָדָם
תַּן סוֹרֵר מְהַלֵּךְ בֵּינֵינוּ

וְיֵשׁ שֶׁנִּמְצָא בְּחֻרְשַׁת הַיָּרֵחַ
אָדָם יוֹשֵׁב תַּחַת הָאֹרֶן הָרָם
וּסְנֶה בּוֹעֵר לְרַגְלָיו אֻכָּל
וְיָדָיו פֶּחָם וְקוֹלוֹ קוֹל הַתַּן
