Admit it. The pointlessness of what
you write. Sensitive waffle,
a girl who sings. Cut it out,

slap yourself in the face. Be straight
to readers. Rather than swollen words,
a cold inspection. Look, this photo:

an empty beach, evening. A woman, young,
seen from behind. Her vest the colour
of the sea. Sand on her shoulders,

salty hair up on top of her head,
pale light around her body. Quiet.
She’s got one week left.

Geef het maar toe. Wat je schrijft
heeft geen zin. Gevoelig gezwatel,
een meisje dat zingt. Hou toch op,

stomp jezelf in je rug. Wees oprecht
tegen lezers. Liever dan dikke woorden
een kille inspectie. Kijk, deze foto:

leeg strand bij avond. Jonge vrouw,
achterkant. Haar hemd heeft de kleur
van de zee. Zand op haar schouders,

zout haar in een knot op haar kruin,
bleek licht rond haar lichaam. Stil.
Zij heeft nog een week.
