the split

whom do you think i saw yesterday? me!
yes but i was not alone
who do you think was with me? the very same!
not an inch taller than i
not a day older
not a hair different
and why do you think i am telling you this?
because a faultline was running through him
a faultline as through Germany
the faultline of the idea
that accompanies all that is split

wen, denkst du, sah ich gestern? mich!
doch sondern ich war nicht allein
wer, denkst du, war bei mir? der gleiche!
keinen kopf größer als ich
keinen tag älter
keinen deut anders
und warum, meinst du, erzähl ich dir das?
weil ein bruch durch ihn ging
ein bruch wie durch deutschland
der bruch der idee
der alles getrennte begleitet
