Broom

Something meaningless
keeps emerging from the activities that go on at home

It is scattered here and there
keeps grating like an eyesore
keeps nagging like something unpleasant

The broom comes in handy in heaping, gathering it all up
The broom helps the house clean up again
It makes the yard sparkle

Now it feels good
to wander barefoot around the house
And from that strange neatness
emerges the craving to invite someone over

The house and its surroundings though
have stayed about the same
