From the Mercury Fountain, Mahmoud,
Vanuit de Kwikfontein, Mahmoud,
Vanuit de Kwikfontein, Mahmoud,vloeit een stroom
echo van dingen
zon spreekt tot steen
cicade tot klaproos
niet de melk van het paradijs
geen rivier van sterren in het donker
enkel het kromme rad der dagen
zinloze rimpelingen in de hitte
