to be thus from childhood
till maturity.
Where could you go with this nickname?
Not to marriage.
Not to Hollywood.
Oh, how you tried to escape it –
until at the last you made it
leaving it somewhere on the precipice
at the 10th kilometre from town,
like the trickster from the folk tale
who emerged so very handsome
from the vat of boiling water –
Vic the Cripple.
