Poem

Willem van Toorn

The poem

So you may never pass from sight
inside the poem I hold you tight –
the way you walk, the way you lie,
the way your body speaks to me.

In centuries still to be
a face alive and reading might
be bending, the better to see,
over the poem, the words I write
to put you down in black and white.

Het gedicht

Het gedicht

Opdat je nooit vergaat
doe ik je in het gedicht:
hoe je loopt, hoe je ligt,
hoe je lichaam tegen me praat.

Eeuwen hiervandaan
leest een levende het wellicht –
aandachtig gebogen gezicht
boven de woorden. Ik dicht
je dat het gedrukt staat.
