Yeses Rain

Yeses Rain

Yeses Rain

The world's a fleeting belonging
as if from clouds to rain

Thrown in deeper waters
as my uncle threw me at 5
in the pool at the family resort
under an oblique sun
believing swimming is in our genes

I gulped a few gulps of water
before my father
pulled me out
of a No

Now that fear
of drowning in another
arrives each time I reach out
to touch your deeper base

I stand at the receiver saying
‘No I am not the one’
to an answering machine

A pool of words
sits silently
between us
speaking to a No
that stands in the rain
gathering to a pond as it pools
and pulls me
into the fear
of another drowning

Is it possible
you're raining yes?
