Workshop Poetry Writing
Want to learn visual poetry? Then attend poet and writing teacher Peter Swanborn's workshop on Sunday 9 June during the annual Poetry International Festival. In this workshop, you will learn how to let the images do the work in your poem. Perhaps you know the famous writing rule 'Show, don't tell'. In other words: tell the reader what you see, not what you know. So write imagery, in such a way that the reader or listener gets what you want to say without naming it literally. After all, poetry is the art of suggestion.
Peter Swanborn (1963) is a poet, writer and teacher. He has published a novel and five books of poetry. These collections were nominated for the C. Buddingh' Prize and the J.C. Bloem Prize, among others. For years he was one of the regular teachers at Poetry International's Poetry Academy. For VU/HOVO Amsterdam, he runs the online course 'Reading Poetry'. He is also a literary contributor to de Volkskrant.
