POEM REMEMBERING
CARL SANDBURG

Yesterday
a bus with thin green lines
painted on
passed by thirteenth street,
its windows
fallen into disorder,
like the socks of girls
coming out of school.
It went by with the wind
singing all along
a song of laughter,
of hurried and spontaneous fleetingness.
It was the sweetest sound
you could ever hear
at two o’clock in the afternoon.

POEMA QUE RECUERDA A
CARL SANDBURG

Ayer
un bus con delgadas líneas
verdes
pasó por toda la carrera trece
con las ventanas
caídas en desorden,
como las medias de las niñas
al salir del colegio.
Se fue con su viento
elevando a todo lo largo
una canción de risas,
de apresurada y espontánea fugacidad.
Fue lo más dulce
que pudo tener alguna vez
las dos de la tarde.
