Workshop Justin Perez – An introduction to visual vernacular
Learn how to become a storyteller with this interactive workshop!
Exclusively for Poetry International Festival, American deaf poet Justin Perez will be leading workshop ‘visual vernacular’ (vv). In 90 minutes he will take the participants on the journey to discover the magic of visual vernacular storytelling through sign language. Visual vernacular storytelling is created through facial expressions and visual gestures. Perez himself is a renowned visual vernacular artist. He loves sharing his tricks and tips with others.
This workshop is primarily intended for deaf and hard of hearing people. Knowledge and experience with visual vernacular is not necessary. However, you must be fluent in Dutch Sign Language (NGT) or American Sign Language (ASL). (Otherwise it is not possible in the time span of the workshop to gain enough knowledge to learn how to tell a story yourself in vv.)
A maximum of 15 participants can join, so register quickly.
