Program Sunday 11 June

Kids, signed poetry, poetry prizes, odes, adventure

The more personal, the more universal. The inspiring poetic perspective on everyday or just unique events matters, and that's what we will be celebrating that this Sunday! We're going to highlight poetry created by deaf poets, center stage. We are going to award prizes: The C. Buddingh' Prize for the best poetry debut of the year and the Brockway Prize for the best poetry translation from Dutch. And we celebrate the imagination of children during Poetry's Peptalkshow (7+). Special encounters can be expected during the Poetry Route through Katendrecht, and special is certainly the meeting between poet Erik Jan Harmens and singer Imca Marina. As a surprise, we present the winner of De Grote Poëzieprijs, and with a tribute to Remco Campert we bring a final salute to the unforgettable poet to whom the festival owes so much.

Deaf poets, poetry in sign language
With performances by deaf poets and the use of many sign language interpreters, this Sunday is largely devoted to poetry in sign language and spoken sign. All readings and interviews will be interpreted by sign language interpreters and Dutch Sign Language interpreters. One of the highlights is the performance by American deaf poet Justin Perez, who will also give a Visual Vernacular Masterclass. Poetry translation in sign language will receive attention and in the Gebarencafé you can order your drink as easily in sign language as in spoken language.  Read more on the special program page for the deaf and hard of hearing.

Highlights on Sunday

Poetry's Peptalkshow (7+)
In the early morning, Sara de Monchy and poets Edward van de Vendel, Ruth Lasters and Jörgen Gario (UNOM) show children (and their parents) the way out of predicaments with clever and imaginative poems. Is your neighbor girl in love with you, but you're not with her? This is the place to be (Dutch spoken, free admission, do make reservations)!

Poets
With readings by Kei Miller, Porsha Olayiwola, Ester Naomi Perquin, Jan Lauwereyns and Erik Jan Harmens, you can indulge your heart one more time today. Be sure not to miss Justin Perez's expressive performance in spoken sign, as well as performances by Amina & Jamila Ouahid (The Deaf Twins) and Giselle

The C. Buddingh' Prize 2023
The crowning of the best poetry debut with the C. Buddingh' Prize is a feast to look forward to every festival. This year, Alara Adilow, Laura Broekhuysen, Babeth Fonchie Fotchind and Astrid Haerens have a chance to win the prize. They will read their poems on their way to the always exciting denouement.

There is a feature film for that!
Also today we have two film programs for you. In the short film program Zwem, dans, vlieg, dwaal, live action, animation and documentary alternate (mostly Dutch spoken). Sidik and the Panther by Reber Dosky tells of the immense desire for freedom and peace with a hopeful quest. You can visit the films with a day ticket or passe-partout, but you can also buy a separate ticket for them via the LantarenVenster website
