Homage to the poetess Trina mercader in Tetuan on the occasion of the poetry world day

January 18, 2006
The House of poetry in Morocco, in collaboration with the Cervantes institutes of Morocco, organized a meeting in homage to the Spanish poetess Trina Mercader. The meeting took place in the general Library of Tetuan.
Trina mercader represented the dream of the great romantics, at a time when the madness of poets was something to be avoided. She kept ablaze inside herself the Andalusian flame, and from the latter she kept drawing her hope to breathe life again into the Andalusian culture, which remains a symbol of freedom and mystery.

Trina wanted to see east and west in harmony, the past embracing the present, and thus aspired to see Moroccan poetry rise to the level of universality. Such dreams were at the origin of the abolition of frontiers so that begins a new poetic era which opens onto the infinite

Through her review Almouatamide, Trina Mercader supported this very thesis which was behind the movement of a poetic renewal, that was neglected after the Independence. Thus the homage is an attempt to make known this bright literary episode in Moroccan history, and attribute to Trina mercader the honor that she deserves.
