From this year on, Poetry International will dedicate time and space to the lost art of declamation: reading other people’s work out loud, performing in on a stage. It’s a beautiful way of learning how to use the right tone of voice, to take into account rhythm and the use of one’s own body. Let alone a way to build confidence on a stage! Poet Laureate of the Netherlands, Babs Gons, is bringing declamation back to the stage in a major way. During the festival, she will share some very exciting plans with you. Then, we will give you a first taste of what declamation can look like, with five wonderful performers chosen by five poetry organizations from The Netherlands: Poetry Circle Nowhere, Poëziepaleis, Huis van Gedichten, School der Poëzie and, of course, Poetry International.
