Meet Sam Onclin

Ambassador of the 53rd Poetry International Festival Rotterdam

Born and raised in Amsterdam. There I developed a deep love of art, poetry and theater, and have a distinct voice in the arts community. As a deaf person, I have found a unique way to express myself through sign language. This visual language allows me to communicate creatively and expressively with audiences and so bridge different cultures and languages. My performances range from poetic readings in which I explore the power of sign language, to dynamic theater performances in which I tell stories through gestures and body movements.

In addition to performing, I am actively committed to accessibility and inclusivity. I believe that art is a powerful tool to effect change and am committed to improving visibility and opportunities for deaf people in the art world.
