Brockway Prize 2023, Award Ceremony

Once every two years, the Dutch Foundation for Literature presents the Brockway Prize, a special oeuvre prize for poetry translators from Dutch. It is Poetry International's honor to present this prize to a translator who has already done a great deal to spread Dutch poetry abroad, during a festive program in which various translators talk about their love of poetry translation and the challenges and triumphs that come with it! In 2021 the last edition of the Brockway Prize was awarded to David Colmer (photo above), who will succeed him?

During this program, the final result of the so-called doorfluistering will also be presented, a chain translation that participants create in a pressure cooker during the festival weekend. A Dutch poem travels through all kinds of languages and eventually comes back to the original language, but what remains of the original text?
