Opening night - Poetry to the Power of Two
Poetry International kicks off the festival weekend on Thursday night!
Poetry International kicks off the festivalweekend on Thursday night the 6th of June with a unique poetry production in which some of the best (inter-)national poets in the world will be on the same stage at the same time, a one-time occurrence. Every year, Poetry International invites a different director to – inspired by the theme of the festival – create a special theatrical setting for the program. This year, director Puck van Dijk, in collaboration with Sebastiaan Smink, will bring the poets together on stage in a new setting.
Within 60 minutes, you will get to know the (inter)national poets of the festival, be able to choose your favorites and create your own route for the festival based on this first sneak peek!

We are thrilled to announce that the immensely talented LAKSHMI will be performing at the Grand Opening of the Poetry International Festival at Theater Zuidplein! Known for her unique blend of whisper-soft melodies, gritty electronics, scratchy guitars, and vulnerable strings, LAKSHMI's Pop Noir style promises an unforgettable experience. Don't miss the chance to witness this extraordinary artist as she brings her mesmerizing music to life on stage. Join us for an evening of captivating performances and poetic artistry.
LAKSHMI is an artist, songwriter and theatremaker. She made her debut in 2017 with the self-titled debut album, followed a year later by the album 'Siren'. In 2021, she broke through to the general public through her participation in the TV show Wie Is De Mol? She released her single 'Empty', including a video clip in which top designer Ronald van der Kemp collaborated, among others. The song was also used for the CBS series 'Charmed'.
LAKSHMI is currently working on her third album, with what she calls Pop Noir, which will be produced by Rob Peters (Typhoon/Bløf) and LudoWic (Wende/Sevdaliza).
