Accessibility

Below you will find an overview of the measures we have taken to ensure the accessibility of Poetry International Festival. Do you have tips or questions? Let us know via info@poetry.nl or +31 10 28 22 777.

Wheelchair accessibility Theater Zuidplein (Thursday)

There are wheelchair spaces available in the hall. Wheelchair spaces can be reserved by phone via the Theater Zuidplein box office: +31 (0)10 20 30 203. There are six parking spaces for the disabled at the Annie M.G. Schmidtplein, behind Zwemcentrum Rotterdam (Van Swietenlaan). You need a disabled parking card for these parking spaces.

Wheelchair accessibility LantarenVenster (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)

The main location of Poetry International Festival is fully wheelchair accessible. All festival rooms are accessible for visitors with a wheelchair. The entrance for room 1 is located on the ground floor, the elevator to reach room 5 and 6 is located in the corridor (on the water-side) behind the wheelchair-friendly toilet.

Wheelchair accessibility Verhalenhuis Belvédère (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)

Verhalenhuis Belvédère is well accessible for people who use a wheelchair or walker. The building has a lift and there is an adapted toilet available, equipped with supports and adapted sink.

In the rooms

In the rooms, three places are always reserved for wheelchairs. These places are located at the front of the room on the first row. To make your visit as pleasant as possible, it is best to email info@poetry.nl with the mention of the festival day you want to visit.

Parking

There are parking spaces for the disabled available for visitors coming by car. There are some parking spaces available on the Wilhelminapier for holders of a European disabled parking card: eight general parking spaces for the disabled on Otto Reuchlinweg, near Prinsendam (rear side of Nieuwe Luxor) and a general disabled parking space on Otto Reuchlinweg, near Westerdam.

Visually impaired audience

We are happy to offer visually impaired people the opportunity to sit at the front. Are you bringing a guide or guide dog for the blind? This is allowed at all locations. To make your visit as pleasant as possible, it is best to email info@poetry.nl with the mention of the festival day you want to visit.

Deaf and hard of hearing audience

On Sunday there are many programs featuring deaf poets and performers, these programs will be accessible for the deaf and hard of hearing audience. Some of the other programs will also be accessible, to both the deaf and hard of hearing, or only the hard of hearing. Check the individual programs on Sunday for more information.

Hard of Hearing Theater Zuidplein (Thursday)

Theater Zuidplein has sound amplification equipment in the halls. The equipment is available for free at the box office and can be connected to any hearing aid with a telecoil. If you don't have a hearing aid, you will receive a receiver with headphones. After the event, you can return the equipment to the box office.

Poetry Buddies

Poetry Buddies are volunteers who are available for visitors with a support request. They are ready to help where needed, but will never provide assistance unasked. If you need help, you can recognize our Poetry Buddies by their special T-shirts. Feel free to go to them! Do you like to have a Poetry Buddy by your side during your visit, for example upon arrival, departure, or throughout your entire festival visit? Or do you need help, for example, to reach the festival location from the parking lot or metro station Wilhelminaplein? You can request the services of a Poetry Buddy in advance. Send an email to info@poetry.nl and we will match you!

We look forward to welcoming you and enjoying the beautiful world of poetry together!
