THERE ARE DAYS

There are days when it’s even hard to go out. You go for a ride and see:
a girl taking her hair for a walk.

An old man in pajamas barks at a dog. An empty square.
You ride on and see: the sky before sundown, and no one’s looking up.

And you too go home, take the black bra
from the dining table and put it away in the underwear drawer.

Turn on one light and another, so you won’t feel time passing
from the night of day to the night of night.

Delilah is no more. Alone
you cut your red hair

allow fear to crush your heart.
