Martin Bril dies, aged 49

Martin Bril, Dutch writer, poet and columnist on Wednesday, aged 49. He had been suffering from oesophagus cancer. As well as his work as author for Dutch publishing house Prometheus, he wrote a daily column in the Volkskrant newspaper and was a regular guest on the television programme De Wereld Draait Door. He won numerous prizes throughout his lifetime.

On Tuesday, Bril won the VPRO Bob den Uyl Prijs, a yearly prize for the best travel book, for his book De Kleine Keizer (The Little Emperor).
