AWAKENING (TO COLOUR)

AWAKENING (TO COLOUR)

AWAKENING (TO COLOUR)

with moisture behind my ears
I was truly green, a sapling
to imagine life a golden
banana bunch ready to be picked

so when things looked grey
and weighty as lead
I could not stand them
these black times, turned white
and flopped in a spiritual faint

hard realities made me so blue
I found myself singing
“The yellow streak in me blues”

I have learnt many a lesson
since succumbing to you
showing the red face when I play hockey
beat me black and blue if that is what it takes
for me to pay full attention

I am after all
your humble servant
