Thi Mar Win

SUMMER POEM

Because of a petition in verse
The poet is allowed to live.
Because of this poem
I long to die.
Could sweetheart turn to heartache?
I have question, but know no answer;
I knew the answer, but didn’t get to the question.
Do I know? Of course not. Don’t I know?
Indeed I do.
When we mutually agree to breed a disease,
The unspoken words
Between our wounds and wisdom
Ring loud in our every thought;
We heartily abide by these unenforced laws.
We reap what we sow.
My prayer isn’t wrong, nor am I asking too much.
Death,
Give me strength!
