Become the Youth City Poet of Rotterdam 2026!

Do you live in Rotterdam, write poetry, and are you between 16 and 20 years old? Then this is your chance!

As Youth City Poet, you will be the literary voice of Rotterdam’s youth for one year. You’ll write city poems, perform on stage, and receive professional guidance. In collaboration with Poetry International and the Rotterdam Library, you’ll be supported in your personal and artistic development.

As Youth City Poet, you will receive

• 1-on-1 coaching from City Poet Benzokarim
• Workshops & professional development programs
• Co-writing a city poem and performing with Benzokarim
• Working towards a performance at the Poetry International Festival 2026!
• A library subscription + book package
• Appropriate financial compensation for your efforts and performances
• Visibility through social media, events, and literary networks

What the program entails

• You write 3 to 4 city poems each year
• You perform several times (both solo and with Benzokarim)
• You attend workshops and monthly coaching sessions
• You grow as a poet and performer, and become a voice for young Rotterdammers
• You share your stories and perspectives on current topics
