Poetry as protest

NATURAL TALENTS
March 03, 2022

The last couple of years have been filled with innumerous protests. We have seen demonstrations against racism, police brutality, sexism, facism; against the corona restrictions; against wars in Palestine, Afghanistan and Ukraine just to name a few. But who else can express pain like a poet? Therefore I would like to present ten of the best protest-uttering poems in the modern age.

Open your minds and hearts for the beautiful words of these poets as Sengupta protests against the captivity of women, Marsman speaks about our role in the climate crisis, Chicangana tells what the sun teaches us about resistance. Also enjoy the powerful words of Schaffer, Van Binsbergen, Eppel, and Antrobus. Rijneveld en Deelder even protest against phenomena that seem natural, necessary and straight-forward to most: respectively the sun and death. Finally, Kaminsky tells us that ‘we protested [...] but not enough’. Do with that as you please.
