Anne Vegter

Anne Vegter

Anne Vegter (1958) is a versatile poet, writer, and theater maker with an unmistakable personal style. Her work is playful, whimsical, and often groundbreaking, balancing between poetic freedom and a deeper existential seriousness. Since her debut with Het veerde (1991), her poetry has been praised for its unpredictability and surreal character. She dares to experiment with language, making her work feel both alienating and intimate. In 2013, she was appointed Poet Laureate of the Netherlands. Whether she writes for children, theater, or poetry collections, Vegter's use of language remains fluid, challenging, and always searching for new ways to capture reality.
