ALL FLESH

AL HET VLEES

de volgend keer dat dit gebeurt zal je
in het vuur zitten
en luisteren
naar de stille last van je bestaan.           

jij en elke wereld,
tegelijk reusachtig
hellend tegen deze mondloze 
rouw —
zwemmend in al die 

verwrongen vreugde;
je zingende pijn
neuriënd als een verminkte kanarie:
al het vlees is verschrikkelijk 

en verschrikkelijk ben jij,
in het vuur
samengelapt en gezichtsloos maar altijd
broedend op een of ander naakte verrukking. 

ook ik weet niet hoe je dit doet: 

je overleeft het 

je hart bloeiend
als een ambulance.

 

ALL FLESH

the next time this happens you will sit in the fire
and listen
to the quiet tax of your existence. 

you and every world, at once leaning
giant into this mouthless
grief —
swimming in all that

mangled joy;
your singing ache
crooning like a mutilated canary:
all flesh is terrible 

and terrible you are,
in the fire
piecemeal and faceless but always
planning for some naked elation.

i too do not know how you do this:

you survive it

your heart blooming
like an ambulance.
