Lieke Marsman

The following scan will last five minutes

The internet has a great deal to offer
Someone who doesn’t wish to dwell
For whom every breath is a distraction

Pulsing lung tumours
The man in the street
Is always right

The nation state has been disarticulated
By her opponents
Then glorified

By her supporters
The man in the street
Is always right

The news repeats itself
The rhythm of drones
The oncologist commences sentencing

There is nothing I need to see
Except, again and again,
A new day with you

The MRI tunnel speaks
The following scan will last five minutes
Poetry fills this empty head

Contrast agent
The stench of anaesthetic
A beach ball in your nose

A volleyball in your stomach
Poetry fills this empty head
The rhythm falters

The news repeats itself
Language without sound
Cancer without catharsis

There is nothing I need to see
Except, again and again,
A new day

De volgende scan duurt vijf minuten

De volgende scan duurt vijf minuten

Op het internet gebeurt een hele hoop
Voor wie niet wenst te rouwen
Is elke zucht een afleiding

Wapperende longtumoren
De man in de straat
Heeft altijd gelijk

De natiestaat is uitgekleed
Door zijn tegenstanders
Daarna uitgehoereerd

Door zijn voorstanders
De man in de straat
Heeft altijd gelijk

Het nieuws herhaalt zich
Een ritme bestaat uit drones
De meester is een oncoloog

Er is niets wat ik nog wil zien
Behalve steeds opnieuw, opnieuw
Een nieuwe dag met jou

De mri-tunnel praat
De volgende scan duurt vijf minuten
In een leeg hoofd ontstaat poëzie

Contrastvloeistof
De geur van narcose
Een strandbal in je neus

Een trefbal in je maag
In een leeg hoofd ontstaat poëzie
Een ritme hapert

Het nieuws herhaalt zich
Taal zonder ruis
Kanker zonder catharsis

Er is niets wat ik nog wil zien
Behalve steeds opnieuw, opnieuw
Een nieuwe dag
