Pieter Boskma

A day like this that’s overcast and grey,

A day like this that’s overcast and grey,
at this same window, some five years away,
still at work, or done with it already
and just surviving, slow and steady,

perhaps still on my own, or tolerably
coupled, staring at the jinking
of the gulls buzzing the garden,
I’m sure I’ll suddenly be thinking

of you, as at this moment,
and I’ll hear your voice again,
but how faint, how faint,

it’s hard to hear it plain,
only when I write your words
do I read with a smile

simply my name.
