Welcome in the LV Foyer

During the festival the foyer at LantarenVenster will be transformed into a venue for a range of activities. Visit the poetry market to buy collections written by your latest discoveries, have that line of poetry that could have been written specially for you printed on an item of clothing, or listen to a performance or talk on the foyer stage. All this, plus of course plenty of delicious things to eat and drink. In short, there’s always something going on in the LV foyer.

Poetry X Willem de Kooning Virtual Reality Lab

Sometimes a poem is so fascinating that you want to step inside it. Second year animation students of the Willem de Kooning Academy have been working on animations of poems in Virtual Reality since January. This festival Friday, which is all about experiment, you will step into five different worlds; free visual interpretations of poems by Alfred Schaffer, Ronelda Kamfer, Kim Hyesoon and Galina Rymboe, poets who have read their poems at the festival in recent years. So glasses on and go!

Poetry X Poetry Circle 010

Poetry Circle 010 is a springboard for talent with passion, for writing performers and performing writers who feel the urgency to tell. A mixed group of young and old, of hardened and fresh, shows that poetry and spoken word exist to be shared. The participants are performing on local stages and getting the chance to showcase themselves outside of their city. Today you can see these poets on the foyer stage in LanterenVenster led by their coach Nina Vermeulen: Sabrina Schoop, Liselore Suur, Djerrin Vos, Lina Al-Hassany en Lo Doomernik. This program is brought to you in collaboration with Bibliotheek Rotterdam. 

Poetry X PoetsClub Rotterdam live

Nowhere else in this city is poetry so intensely experienced and lived as at PoetsClub Rotterdam. Every first Wednesday of the month all the poets of the city gather in Café De Schouw for an evening full of new poems. Everyone is welcome and is invited by hosts Jeroen Naaktgeboren and Miguel Santos to read at least one new poem in the packed pub. On this Friday night Daryl Raphaël, Eline Schellekens, Linde Suzanne, Jan Wagenaar, Jeroen Naaktgeboren and Angelika Geronymaki will perform for you. 

Poetry Night - Afterparty featuring Kay Slice & band and Dj Doktoro

Kay Slice is a Soul/Hiphop artist, sharp with the pen strong with the mic. Kay (previously frontman of Brandwerk) effortlessly alternates smooth flows with catchy melody lines. On stage, he is joined by his solid live band. If Twilight had a soundtrack it would sound like this.

Poetry Talk - short films about poetry by young people

Children and young people write remarkable poems about their feelings, thoughts and experiences. In Poetry Talk, the young poets engage in conversation with adults about the writing and the theme of the poems. From School of Poetry and Interakt, with Rick de Leeuw, Gershwin Bonevacia, Dieuwertje Blok, Nazmiye Oral, Milouska Meulens, Ellen ten Damme and Tarikh Janssen, Nina, Sakina, Jay, Merith, Terje, Anouar, Christy, Armano, Soufiane and Hamza. 

The Itinerant Poetry Librarian

Since 2006, The Itinerant Poetry Librarian has been traveling the major literary festivals of this world. Everywhere she goes, she displays her colorful library of lost and forgotten books and collects the sounds, poems and poetry of the cities and people she meets. For the last fourteen years - minus those last two - she also installed herself at the Poetry International Festival, and so Rotterdam is in the top five in terms of membership. So grab your membership again - or become a member - and look her up for a special book and an unforgettable experience.
