The Poetry of Sign Language
This lecture explores how sign language has its own unique style of poetry, one that goes far beyond literal translation. Can poetry in sign language be compared to spoken or written poetry, with its use of rhythm, meter, verse, and other creative techniques? This session delves into that question, featuring powerful video performances by Deaf artists who express poetry through movement, facial expression, and visual rhythm. It’s a chance to broaden your perspective and discover the rich, expressive world of sign language poetry.
Alicia Sort Leal
Alicia Sort Leal moves in different ways throughout the art world. To start off, she is the director of EL GLOBUS, an organization in Barcelona that provides workshops and activities for children and families. In addition, she is the illustrator behind Tais, a deaf feminist character from Tais Illustration (Tais.illu). As an artist, Alicia brings together people from several disciplines for different projects.
